Boron is one of the essential nutrients for the optimum growth, development, yield, and quality of crop. It performs many important functions in plants and is mainly involved in cell wall synthesis and structural integration. The requirement of boron by young growing tissues proves its critical role primarily in cell division and elongation.

Boron deficiency symptoms are expressed at growing tips of the root or shoot generally stunting and distortion of the growing tip leads to tip death, brittle foliage and yellowing of lower leaf tips. Flowering and fruiting are reduced and developing fruit is often distorted.
